Why

“The new world is a truly global economy, driven by information, ideas and discoveries. It is a creative economy, where art and culture are the building blocks of innovation, invention and understanding.”

Province of British Columbia
Speech from the Throne, February 2006

“Imagine a world without music, without poetry, without books, without paintings on the walls, without photographs, without legends, without the movement and the energy of dance, without theatre, without cinema, without the kind of imagination and creations which would force us to live only the realities of day to day life, the economy, the politics… Arts and culture are the fourth dimension we need to be humans: a country without arts and culture would be a country without a soul and a nation without identity.”

Raymond Legault, Union des artistes
Canadian Conference of the Arts, 2011

The arts create appreciation. Appreciation creates caring. Caring creates community. Community is feeling connected with one another, coming to know one another, appreciating one another, and creating relationships with one another.

Community creates trust, acceptance, respect, and caring for one another. The arts create connections and community. Creating community creates well-being and appreciation for everyone.
